LIVINGSTON
COUNTY, MICHIGAN |
|
This page does not have a lot of data on it as of yet as it will be one of the last areas I work on for the site. Previously, it was my opinion that I did not want to deny the Livingston County Genealogical Society the opportunity to bring in much needed funds for their projects that in the end would benefit us all by transcribing various census of Livingston County, MI.
Now that I am no longer affiliated with them in any fashion I can take the time to get this data on line, as I have all the reels of microfilm here in my office. It is a sad commentary to realize that those that I thought of as friends, could behave in this fashion.
I have had many questions regarding this break-up and it is due to the actions of several members of their board that failed to recognize all I had done to help them over my 20+ year association. They decided it was easier to believe the lies of a few than to learn the facts of both sides, and totally ignoring the thousands of dollars they made from my site by hosting their pages with their book sales. Am I hurt, you bet, and you the researcher will benefit, as I add tons of data that I once held back. I have already heard from dozens of Livingston County researchers guaranteeing me that they have gained a hundredfold from my site with Dianne Richards as my co-coordinator over anything that the other organization ever considered offering.
As I said I have already purchased the films for the 1900, 1910 and 1920 census of Livingston County Michigan and have sent them away to be placed on cd for donation to RootsWeb, and since many are unable to download the large images that come from these I will be doing a line by line transcription when they arrive.
When the 1930 is available, I will do the same thing. With the water below, the site will continue to grow....though at 4.3 gigabytes I am not sure how much bigger it can get. <grin>
Another MIGenWeb Coordinator Jennifer from Kent county has placed this resource on her site and I think it may help those from Livingston doing research, as so many people came from the areas covered in this census: Here is her explanation:
"In hopes of promoting state unity and developing the
online genealogy resources available for Michigan, the Kent County Michigan GenWeb has placed the entire 1830 Census of Michigan Territory online. You can visit the site at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~mikent/census/1830/This includes Detroit, the remainder of Wayne County,
Washtenaw County and the other counties in the eastern section of the state. The names will be added to our search engine and the RootsWeb Seeker search engine within a day or so. The census is online thanks to the efforts of Ronnie Aungst. Please stop by, browse and see if you can find an ancestor. Any comments or corrections should be sent to Kent County Michigan GenWeb Project Co-Coordinator Jennifer Godwin at jengod@yahoo.comAlso the state of Michigan has placed on line the 1870 MI census and can be found at:
http://envoy.libofmich.lib.mi.us/1870_census/
I also understand that the LDS church at their www.familysearch.org site has now placed the 1880 census on line for you to search. All this data can do nothing but help you the researcher.
